TAU by Philip Lamantia
I've spent this afternoon and evening reading a "lost manuscript" of Lamantia's entitled, "Tau," now available from City Lights Books. The editor Garrett Caples surmises it was written in the early-mid 1950s, thus making it a bridge-of-sorts between his early work and the publication of "Ekstasis" in 1959. Thanks to City Lights Books and the Estate of Philip Lamantia for making this work available--it may even attract more readers to Lamantia's explosively ecstatic work. His work is monumental, a purely transcendent experience.
Included are the poems of John Hoffman whose work Lamantia read at the famous Six Gallery Reading.
